School of IT - A Dept of WBUT,
established by the Government is conceived to be an apex institute for education, training and research. Its vision is to serve as a catalyst and agent of change to steer the State of West Bengal towards integration with the global network society in the new millenium The School aims at becoming a Centre of Excellence in teaching and research as well as a nodal centre to act as an Academic Staff College for training teaching personnel for Engineering and Technological Institutions.

School of IT was formerly known as IIIT Calcutta (Indian Instiute of Information Technology).
The School consists of the twin Departments of “Computer Science & Engineering” and “Information Technology” of the University.

Future plan:

There is a plan to a Post-Graduate degree course in Communication Engineering with specialisation in Wireless Communication and Optical Communication.

Vision:

To excel in imparting quality training in technological education and carry out research in frontier areas of Information Technology, Computer Science & Engineering and Communication Engineering. This School aims at becoming a Centre of Excellence in teaching and research as well as a nodal centre to act as an Academic Staff College for training teaching personnel for Engineering and Technological Institutions.

Mission:

To create an excellent environment of learning where the undergraduate and the post-graduate students are made aware of the state-of-art technological developments. To offer a wider spectrum of knowledge and develop the skill to prove ones ability in the highly competitive world of technological learning.
