Facilities

1. The institution building consists of the following:

  • The main University building covering a total floor space of about 22,000 sq. meters is a four- storied building with a central corridor. Most of the Academic Departments, the University Library, Department of Human Resource Management, The University Administrative Office the Vice-Chancellor's Office, Office of the Dean of the Faculty and the Examination Office are all located in this building.
  • An Eight storied Science & Technology buildings with a carpet area of 6500 sqm. Has newly been constructed to accommodate the expansion facilities of existing and upcoming departments.
  • The Workshop Complex is housed partly in the premises of the heritage building and partly in the adjoining buildings. The total area of the Workshop Complex is about 8500 sq. meters.
  • The Hydraulics Laboratory is located in a separated one-storied building. The M N Dastur Block and A.K Seal Hall also house some of the academic and administrative departments.

2. Accomodation of Students and Staff

  • The University, with a student population of about 2500 has 13 hostels, including one for girls. The accommodation for international students is guaranteed. The University also provides accommodation for a sizeable numbers of faculty members and other categories of staff.

3. The Amenities

Besides institution building, students' hostels, staff quarters and various student and staff activity centres, the campus has the following amenities;

  • The University Guest House and the Centenary Building
  • The Hospital with outdoor and indoor treatment facilities under the supervision of Resident Medical officers.
  • The Staff Recreation Centre - Staff Common Room, Professors's Common Room, etc.
  • B. E. College Model school from Kindergarten to Higher Secondary level.
  • A Campus School of Dance and Music for inmates and cultural centre under (SPICMACAY) Society for Promote of Indian Classical Music and Cultural Amongst the Youth.
  • The Udyan Sabpeyechhir Asar - An external body conducting children's programs in physical fitness Exercise, bratachari, games & sports, drawing & painting and cultural activities.
  • The Vivekananda Youth Circle ( for boys) and Sister Nivedita Study Circle (for girls) - for holistic Personality development of the students.
  • The B. E. College Branch of United Bank of India.

4. Health Service

The University as a Hospital to cater to the needs of the Campus inmates with Resident Medical Officers Other than required supporting staff. Besides, the hospital has an ward to effectively isolate students Suffering from infectious diseases such as chicken pox, mumps, measles etc. Outdoor treatment is available in two shifts : morning and afternoon except on Sundays. Serious cases are generally transferred either to any city hospital or to the Students' Health Home, Calcutta, the University having Universal Membership for the latter. The University hospital provides 24 hours ambulance service.

5. Campus Services & Management

The University is provided with uninterrupted power supply from the Calcutta Electric supply Corporation. Water supply is provided by the Howrah Municipal Corporation. In addition, the University has its own captive generation plant and also water supply sources. There are three agencies which look after the maintenance of various services in the campus: the Public Works Department (Maintenance) with an Assistant Engineer-in-charge for maintenance of all the buildings and roads, the Electrical Wing of the P.W.D. with a Sub-Assistant Engineer-in-charge to look after the maintenance of electrical services and Public Health Engineering Department with a Sub-Assistant Engineer-in-charge for maintenance of water supply and sewage disposal services. Recently the University has opened its own Engineering Wind.
